QUEBEC CITY SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 - The Minneapolis Parade of Homes, going on this week through Oct 1st, is typically chock full of home innovations and unique ideas, but this year’s scene-stealer is a new category of exterior shake that has all of the rich looks of cedar without the costly maintenance. The game-changing new shake is called Beach House Shake created by Tando on a parade home built by Paul Vogstrom of Paul Thomas Design and building partner DLM Construction, both serving the Twin Cities. The home will be open for tours during four weekends Thursday – Sunday, Noon – 6 p.m. and is located at 3 St. Albans Drive West, in Hopkins, MN and is listed on the Parade of Homes site as DLM Construction’s Parade Home #210. http://www.paradeofhomes.org/house-tours-mn.
Off the beaten path in Hopkins, the private cottage-style home is 2,200 sq. ft. on the main level with an open floor plan that includes a great room and updated kitchen, wine cellar and finished basement with a wet bar. The Beach House Shake in a color called Sandcastle, has the light clean color of true cedar, and blends well with other cladding materials. “The authentic-look shake is on the main body of the home on three sides, trimmed with Miratec composite strand board,” said Vogstrom. “The front is real stone with veneer cladding on the foundation, with the shake on the peaks of the gables.” He explained that Beach House Shake is the perfect material to achieve trendy mixed materials look and nicely complements stone, veneer, engineered wood, fiber cement and stucco.
According to Ralph Bruno, President of Derby Building Products, the parent company of the Tando brand, “Beach House Shake features unprecedented realism and is impervious to moisture, so it requires no upkeep and is backed by the most comprehensive warranty in the industry.” He adds, “Beach House Shake stays looking as fresh as the day it was installed and evokes the relaxed feeling of a lake or beach house.”
“Tando’s Beach House Shake is indistinguishable from cedar and is a curb appeal eye-catcher, a real gem on a private lot,” said Vogstrom. “It is faster and much easier to install and unlike real cedar it will never split, or need upkeep. Moisture is a big issue in this area and the fact that the shake does not absorb moisture will extend its life for decades.”
